THE
CORRECTIONAL ASSOCIATION OF MASSACHUSETTS
The
Correctional Association of Massachusetts is a professional association of
over 400 members statewide, and a Dual-State Chapter of the American
Correctional Association, which has over 20,000 members nationally.
CAM
was founded in 1980 with the mission of providing professional development
through communication for individuals working or interested in the field of
corrections.
Members
represent every facet of the field, including probation, parole, youth
services, county and state corrections, courts, criminal justice education
and training, community based programs, and offender services.

PROVIDES ITS MEMBERS
Cam
provides its members with the opportunity to share information and network
in a variety of ways:
- CAM ANNUAL
MEETING - Held
each May, this evening dinner meeting combines a comfortable social
setting and networking opportunities, highlighted by a distinguished
guest speaker in the field of criminal justice. In addition, the
evening includes the presentation of CAM's "Howard B. Gill
Lifetime Achievement Award" and the "Jim Justice
Professional Excellence Award", along with the announcement of
election results.

TRAINING CONFERENCE –
November 2009
This daylong event offers guest speakers and workshops which address
topical issues and concerns in the field. Lunch and refreshment breaks
offer ample opportunity for networking.

CAM'S
LEADERSHIP & ELECTION PROCESS
Leadership
of CAM is provided by a five member Executive Committee (President,
President-Elect, Vice President, Clerk, and Treasurer) and a twenty member
Board of Directors. One-half of the Executive Committee and Board of
Director positions are open for nomination and election each year, thus
assuring both continuity and the opportunity for new leadership.
ALL positions are filled through open nominations and
election by the membership.

Membership Application
CAM
is a Dual-State Chapter of the American Correctional Association (ACA), which
means that when you join CAM you become a member of BOTH organizations and
receive the membership benefits of both for one annual membership fee. This
fee is divided between the two associations.

Awards
Program
COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM - Under construction (State Residents
Only)
Since
its inception in 1980, the Correctional Association of Massachusetts (CAM)
has been dedicated to improve communication and learning among correction
professionals, and to the recruitment of highly motivated and educated
people to work in this challenging field.
To
encourage and further enhance the academic pursuits of those in the field
of corrections, as well as those already employed in the field, CAM has
established two $500.00 college scholarships.
To
be eligible, an individual must be enrolled in an undergraduate degree
granting program (Associate's or Bachelor's degree), in criminal justice or
a closely related field and have completed 15 semesters with a grade point
average of 3.0 or above, both full and part-time students are eligible, as
long as they are currently at a college or university and will be enrolled
in the fall semester. High School Seniors who have a B average and have
been accepted by a college or university in the criminal justice program
are also eligible. These scholarships are open to all that meet these
minimum qualifications, including CAM members and their families.
An
application package must include:
- A completed application
form;
- An official college/high
school transcript of all courses completed;
- High School Seniors must submit
a letter of acceptance into a criminal justice program from a
college/university ;
- A letter of recommendation
from the student's academic advisor or current instructor in criminal
justice;
- Three (3) copies of a 250
word essay explaining why the applicant wants to pursue a career in
corrections, be sure to include any volunteer/community service
experience you may have.
