Inspection finds problems

OHIO - The new Richland County jail is barely a month old, but a July 1 state inspection already has uncovered violations at the $21.5 million facility.

"I was stunned," Commissioner Ed Olson said. "You're going to see (how we deal with this) in the appropriation process."

Linda Janes, deputy director of the department's Division of Parole and Community Services, said the inspection is routine for new jails and additions. The most serious violations were gender separation issues. In one case, a woman could be seen using the rest room via a monitor, which was shut down immediately. Read more.
