Former paralegal faces charge related to mailing drugs to jail inmate |

OCALA – A 29-year-old paralegal who, authorities said, sent drugs in the mail to an inmate at the Marion County Jail, was arrested Wednesday for introduction of contraband into a detention facility. Late last month, Marion County Sheriff’s Office investigator Rhonda Stroup was reviewing mail that came into the jail when she saw large and small envelopes that were taped together and addressed to inmate Luis Rodriguez. When Stroup removed the small envelope from the large one, she found 10 suboxone sublingual strips in a clear plastic bag inside. Suboxone is a schedule III controlled substance. When Stroup tried to deliver the envelope to Rodriguez, he refused to take it. Jail records show Rodriguez has been an inmate at the facility since July 27 on a warrant to revoke bond on several charges, some of which include conspiracy to traffic heroin and possession of cocaine.
