Department of Corrections Ends Contract With Food Service Company |

The state of Michigan has ended a contact with a food service company that operated in prisons. The Department of Corrections announced Wednesday that they will return to state-run food service operations this summer after coming to a mutual agreement with Trinity Services Group. Around 320 Trinity food service workers are currently employed at Michigan correctional facility kitchens, and the change would bring in around 350 state workers to replace them. MDOC says the food service contracts saved taxpayers money, but it was determined continued challenges with staffing vacancies, turnover, performance expectations, and a request for additional funding, warranted a return to state-run operations.
