Following the recent escape and capture of Harrison County prisoner Gary Gorman, Sheriff Tom McCool said his office has put plans in place to ensure that a similar incident won’t happen again.
“After reviewing and talking with jail staff, out of a comedy of errors, to be honest with you — instead it’s not funny — a combination of new employees, lack of clear communication (and) lax adherence to certain procedures, I have taken steps this past week to ensure that a similar walk-off will not occur in the future,” the sheriff informed the Harrison County Commissioners Court at the court’s regular meeting, Monday.
Gorman, who was part of the inmate worker program, had walked away from an inmate worker assignment around 11 p.m. Saturday, June 2.
