W&L opens exhibit featuring art from prison inmates

LEXINGTON — Dustin Davis didn’t have time to hone his artistic skills before he went to prison. But behind his cell doors, he could focus on one piece for hours.

It was an escape, a way to zone out of the noise and repetitiveness of everyday life behind bars.

“When you’re in there you can’t do nothing,” he said. “You can draw a picture. As you can see, I would draw these things and try to feel better. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn’t.”
