|SCDC: Woman brings meth, painkillers to inmate during visitation|
A woman is facing contraband and drug trafficking charges after state prison officials say she brought meth and painkillers to an inmate during a visit.
According to warrants, a woman gave an inmate at Evans Correctional Institution tobacco, 33 grams of meth and 36 tablets of Buprenorphine, a highly addictive painkiller that is sometimes used to treat addiction. The documents did not name the inmate at the medium-security Bennettsville prison, which houses more than 1,200 males.
Nikia M. Perkins was arrested Sunday and charged with attempting to furnish a prisoner with contraband, possession of a schedule III controlled substance and trafficking methamphetamine. Her birthday and address were redacted from warrants and she was not listed on Marlboro County public index. A booking photo was not immediately available.
