An inmate in the Erie County Holding Center apparently overdosed Sunday and was hospitalized one day after being transferred to the jail from the custody of Amherst Police. Due to health privacy laws, the Sheriff's Office is not releasing the inmate's name.
According to the Sheriff's Office, deputies found a female inmate unresponsive in her cell at 10:25 p.m. Sunday. She was not breathing and had no pulse. Deputies immediately initiated CPR and called medical professionals who administered three doses of Narcan and shocked her with an automatic defibrillator to revive her.
The inmate was taken to Buffalo General Medical Center. No information was given regarding her condition. In a statement, Erie County Sheriff Timothy Howard said deputies and medical staff acted quickly to "save her life."
