Salary: $150,228 (statutory annual salary) Benefits: Vehicle (law enforcement exempt) Medical Insurance Life Insurance Deferred Compensation Chief administrative officer of the largest law enforcement agency in Illinois with 11,225 staff, 48,000 inmates, 28,000 parolees and annual operating budget of approximately $1.479 billion. Appointed, at-will position, subject to confirmation by the Illinois State Senate, and a member of the Governor’s cabinet. Duties: Final authority for all operations of the department including but not limited to: correctional centers, work camps, adult transition centers, parole operations, programs, correctional industries, internal investigations, communications, budget and finance, legislative affairs, public relations, legal affairs, intergovernmental relations, emergency management and response, training, contracting, human resources, maintenance, planning and research, and medical services. Directly supervise the following positions: chief of staff, assistant director, special advisor to the director, executive chief to the director, private secretary, chief legal counsel, chief of investigations and internal affairs, special legal counsel, director of communications, special assistant, chief executive officer of Illinois Correctional Industries, and chief of internal audit. Oversee and manage $1.469 billion annual budget. Testify before legislative committees on the budget, bills, and other topics. Directly responsible for the agency’s compliance with Illinois statutes and regulations and administrative directives as well as federal laws, such as the Prison Rape Elimination Act. Conduct on-site inspections of correctional centers, ATCs, work sites, and field parole offices. Represent the department at public functions and serve on various boards and commissions. Approve quarterly and annual reports. Approve interstate and international custody transfers of inmates and parolees. Approve the awarding of Supplemental Sentence Credit. Approve press and media releases. Represent the agency with the Association of State Correctional Administrators (ASCA). This position reports to the Director of Public Safety and coordinates policy implementation with the Office of the Governor and other Illinois state agencies. |
