Dominion Wireless Inc. was awarded a contract by Trentech, to provide personal duress alarm systems for the Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark, New Jersey. New Jersey officials are using the most advanced technologies available throughout the prison, which is slated to open in the summer of 2002, including Dominion's FLARE(TM) transmitters. FLARE's radio frequency (RF) technology uses the unique characteristics of the steel and concrete within prisons to instantaneously locate staff, volunteers and visitors who transmit a distress signal. The new prison will cover approximately 750,000 square feet and house 2,000 inmates. 'Because corrections officers, medical personnel, clergy and others are continuously moving throughout a prison, it is imperative that, if trouble occurs, an emergency response team can locate them quickly and accurately,' said Roger Christ, president of Dominion Wireless Inc. 'FLARE's RF signals can't be interrupted by human bodies, heavy clothing, building materials or smoke that impede other locating mechanisms. Its unparalleled performance provides peace of mind for any individual working or visiting inside a prison.' FLARE is a small, lightweight signaling device that fits easily on a person's belt. It can locate an individual transmitting a distress signal to within 12.5 feet, accuracy unmatched by other products. FLARE also can distinguish floor-to-floor and indoor-to-outdoor locations with unparalleled precision. When a FLARE transmitter is activated, it instantly relays a signal to the prison's control room where security personnel can pinpoint the individual in trouble and dispatch help. |
