The director of the Michigan Department of Corrections resigned Wednesday. Bill Martin said he will step down as director March 4. He is leaving to become chief executive officer of the Michigan Association of Realtors. Martin is a former state representative (1984 to 1994) from the Battle Creak area who was appointed state lottery commissioner by Gov. John Engler in 1995. Four years later, Engler tapped Martin to run the corrections department. Engler said in a statement Wednesday that he regretted Martin's resignation, but wished him well in the private sector. |
