Description: | POSITION SUMMARY Under close supervision, provide support and structure to residents in developing program plans. Control and secure facility and residents, and operate within legal constraints and contract agency stipulations. TYPICAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: Although it is not possible to provide an exhaustive list of all types of duties, responsibilities and performance standards, the following are essential job functions: 1. May perform all duties of Monitor I (see job description manual). 2. Provide employment orientation to all new residents to assess their situation so that suitable employment can be found. 3. Assist residents in obtaining necessary documents to provide identity and right to work so that they will meet INS employer sanctions. 4. Contact prospective employers and employment services by phone, mail and in person to describe program and elicit cooperation in providing job opportunities. Prepare and keep current a list of all prospective employers and jobs available in the area. Establish a referral system. 5. Meet with residents daily to establish a job search work plan that is both viable and realistic to residents' goals. 6. Hold group meetings with unemployed residents weekly to teach job search skills (e.g., how to fill applications, resume writing, interviewing techniques, etc.), so that they might present themselves in a more positive way to prospective employers and thus increase employment potential. 7. Develop referral sources for vocational training classes and job search programs. 8. In own handwriting, update the sign-in and sign-out book with residents' work information and sign-in/out times to ensure that all staff is aware of when a resident should leave for and return from work, so that the residents can be held accountable for program limitations. 9. Monitor residents' pay stubs in order to ensure that they have continued in their employment, and that they have worked the number of hours for which they signed out in the log. Make periodic on-site job inspections only if mandated by the contract. 10. Develop a Job Bank and Community Resource Manual and update on a monthly basis, so that employment opportunities and resources will be readily available to residents. 11. Assist and encourage residents to upgrade their employment through job counseling sessions dealing with the development and carrying out employment strategies. 12. Develop and maintain a working relationship with the State, County, and federal program administrators who can provide assistance to residents with on-the-job training and education. Contact other available sources of subsidized assistance training programs. 13. Verify itineraries, as required by contract to ensure that residents are meeting program goals and contract requirements. 14. Verify residents' employment and / or school attendance to ensure residents are meeting employers' and schools' standards, as required by contract. 15. Make handwritten entries in residents' files regarding employment and school status and progress can be measured and assistance given, as needed. 16. Maintain or exceed employment goals that have been established by District Director and Program Manager for your facility, in order to improve resident morale and enhance self- esteem through employment. 17. Implement formal or informal disciplinary action for rule violations according to procedure to comply with the Government and contacting agency requirements. 18. Participate in staff meetings by sharing observations and recommendations regarding the facility, residents and staff relations to identify and solve problems and function as a team. 19. Complete in-service training to meet the requirements for continued personal and professional self-development. (Full-time employees 40 hours per year and proportionate hours for all other classification of employees.) 20. Maintain confidentiality obtained through job duties regarding employees, vendors, residents, outside agencies, etc., so that sensitive information is only given on a "need to know" basis. 21. Comply with Cornell Corrections policies and work rules as described in the company Employee Handbook, Statement of Work, and the Facility Policies and Procedures Manual, including directives of Cornell Corrections' Managers and Supervisors in a cooperative spirit to ensure conformance to company standards. 22. Adhere to Cornell Corrections' attendance policy; work overtime as required, to ensure adequate coverage of the program and to ensure the safety and security of the residents. 23. Comply with Facility safety rules; take appropriate corrective action to ensure work is performed in a safe manner and without injury to self or others. 24. Communicate effectively with all levels of staff in a manner that promotes a team spirit and a sense of cooperation. |
