Under the general supervision of a Correctional Facility Superintendent, performs administrative, managerial, and supervisory work required in planning, delivery, and evaluating correctional services. Supervision is exercised over supervisory, casework, technical, security, and clerical employees. Extensive liaison occurs with correctional, law enforcement, political, and service provider personnel. All employees of the Agency of Human Services perform their respective functions adhering to four key practices: customer service, holistic service, strengths-based relationships and results orientation. Preferred Qualifications Experience as a Correctional Facility Shift Supervisor and/or Casework Supervisor/Living Unit Supervisor will be helpful to the successful candidate. Minimum Qualifications KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Considerable knowledge of correctional principles and practices. Considerable knowledge of economic, emotional, educational, occupational, and social factors, which influence offenders. Considerable knowledge of individual and group dynamics applicable to staff and offenders. Knowledge of laws, rules and regulations, and general principles applicable to offender detention, arrest, sentencing, probation, custody, release, and parole. Working knowledge of supervisory principles and practices. Ability to interpret, and explain laws, rules, and procedures. Ability to act promptly and effectively in a wide range of emergencies. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to prepare clear and concise reports. Ability to perform job duties within the framework of the four key practices of the Agency of Human Services: customer service, holistic service, strengths-based relationships and results orientation. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Education: Bachelor's Degree Experience: Four years of administrative or supervisory experience in a correctional setting. OR Education: HS graduation or equivalent. Experience: Eight years at a professional level in the broad area of human services, including five years in either a correctional setting or a role requiring frequent interaction with correctional facility administration and inmates, coordinating with a correctional facility program, or direct casework with correctional inmates. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position. AHS Policy 4.02, Hiring Standards, pursuant to 20 V.S.A. 2056c or other applicable statutory authority, requires criminal record checks for all AHS positions, including motor vehicle driving record checks and national record checks where appropriate. Working Conditions Duties are mainly performed in a correctional facility. Departmental and public meetings require private means of transportation and result in frequent travel. Evening and weekend work may occur. Emergency situations may require availability at any time. Direct contact with offenders is predictable and poses possible danger.
