Description: | The mission of the Department of Community Corrections and Rehabilitation (DOCCR) is to promote community safety, community restoration, and reduce the risk of re-offense. The Department of Community Corrections and Rehabilitation (DOCCR) is seeking a Community Alternatives Liaison (CAL) which will be part of the Hennepin County Juvenile Detention Alternative Initiative (JDAI) team. This position will work as the link between the diverse Hennepin County communities and local government by developing strategies to educate the community about issues that are related to the Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative and the youth that are involved in the Hennepin County Juvenile Justice System. This position will work closely with JDAI, Juvenile Justice system partners and stakeholders, and the community to identify detention alternatives and culturally specific community resources, and coordinate the existing detention alternatives. This position works a flexible schedule including evening and weekend hours and is located at 3015 12th Avenue South in South Minneapolis. Primary Duties and Responsibilities include: · Provide the community with information regarding community-based and county resources that offer help and support to families · Assist in the implementation, coordination, and monitoring of community-based programming and alternatives to detention in collaboration with DOCCR management, juvenile justice personnel across agencies, community members, and contracted agencies · Coordinate and track client referrals between community agencies, probation, and/or the Court · Monitor and track services, client participation, and outcomes provided by Detention Alternatives contracted by Hennepin County · Serve as the first contact and the liaison for Detention Alternatives · Review and stay abreast of literature to identify existing best practices for community program development and utilization for at-risk youth · Conduct a comprehensive review of local community programming available for youth on probation and maintain an updated database of local community programming available · Seek and solicit additional community collaboration and resources where data shows a need for additional services The Ideal Candidate will have: · Bachelor's degree or higher in research methods, statistics, behavioral/social science, public health, urban/city planning, or a field appropriate to the area of specialization · Three or more years of professional work experience working with at-risk youth in the community or in a residential setting · One year or more of experience working with evidence-based practices in a government setting · Access to reliable transportation to commute to areas around the Twin Cities metro which may or may not be close to public transportation lines and during work hours for this position which include evening and weekend hours · Knowledge of best practices in a corrections setting including risk assessments, motivational interviewing, and case planning · Excellent written and verbal communication skills, professional demeanor, sound judgment, and strong organizational skills · A collaborative work style and the ability to either take direction or work independently as the situation requires · Experience using Microsoft Office programs to present data, reports, and recommendations · Ability to recognize and respect cultural differences and provide culturally appropriate services · Experience coordinating and facilitating work groups to accomplish goals and objectives; providing clerical support for such meetings · Experience planning and organizing community meetings, public forums, and training events · Experience collecting, analyzing, and reporting data regarding efficiency and effectiveness of juvenile justice processes and programs · Ability to demonstrate the employee competencies |
