Description: | Deputy Warden, Security and Safety Erie County, Pennsylvania is seeking a Deputy Warden of Security and Safety for the Erie County Prison. This position will provide the potential advancement opportunity to the position of Warden within 1-2 years. The selected candidate will be a hands-on position tasked with providing a safe and secure environment for the county's employees, inmates, and citizens. The position will develop, implement, and establish the policies and procedures for correctional staff and security of the prison. It will supervise the Training Coordinator, Shift Captains, Pre-Release Supervisor and all other line security personnel. It will participate in employment negotiations, mediation, and resolution of collective bargaining and labor agreement issues. Additionally it will be responsible for the management of the physical plant and facility maintenance. The Deputy Warden works with outside law enforcement, perform internal investigations, and administers the completion of criminal investigations. In absence of the Warden, he/she assumes responsibility for all aspects of the Department of Corrections operations. The selected candidate will be required to be on-call 24/7. The Erie County Prison is a direct supervision state of the art facility with 200 employees, a total capacity of 900 inmates, including the community corrections center placements. The average daily incarcerated population is 569. The facility is one of a limited number of county jails nationally which is accredited by the American Correctional Association's Commission on Accreditation. Erie County provides an excellent benefits package and salary commensurate with experience. Minimum Requirements: Knowledge of modern correctional and management practices. Demonstrated effective communication skills. Bachelor's degree in a related field (corrections, criminal justice, sociology, psychology, etc.) and at least 5 years of institutional corrections experience, of which 3 years should be of demonstrated progressive institutional experience at the management level. Desired Skills and Qualifications: Knowledge and experience with tracking, monitoring, and development of budgets and contract administration. Knowledge and Experience with collective bargaining and labor management issues. Experience in recognized standards of correctional facility operations. Experience and knowledge of inter-governmental relations & the external environment. Experience in effective communications with the media, police, defense attorneys, prosecutors, and the general public. Knowledge and experience with Correctional Emergency Management Systems. Practical knowledge of ACA accreditation standards and familiarity with there implementation.. Knowledge and experience in inmate classifications and program development. Knowledge and experience with operational procedures of work release centers, direct supervision, and unit management. Bachelor's Degree in related field plus 7 years of institutional corrections experience. MBA, MPA or other graduate degree directly related to the position's responsibilities such as Administration of Justice preferred. At least 5 years of demonstrated progressive institutional corrections experience at the management level. Prison or jail senior management experience at the county, state, private or federal levels. |
