DESCRIPTION: We are seeking a transformational leader who brings performance based management skills, a commitment to servant leadership, and the drive to inspire a culture of trust, creativity and commitment to the critical work of this agency and those it serves. Headquartered in Lincoln, Nebraska, the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) operates 10 institutions housing approximately 5,200 inmates statewide. The department's focus includes inmate programming and education, physical and behavioral health care, re-entry services, community programs, and adult parole. The Department is accredited by the American Correctional Association. Information about the Department can be found at: www.corrections.nebraska.gov. The vacancy is located at the Diagnostic and Evaluation Center/Lincoln Corrections Center. Currently two facilities, DEC/LCC is undergoing a 75 million dollar renovation and expansion that will result in a single facility known as the Reception and Treatment Center. The combined facility has two specific missions: residential mental health treatment and intake/evaluation for all adult males entering NDCS. Prior experience in prison management involving residential mental health services is desired, as is experience in large prison construction projects. This is an appointed discretionary position and is not subject to the State of Nebraska Classified System Personnel Rules and Regulations. Hiring rate: $100,000-110,000 (based upon experience) EXAMPLES OF WORK: Proactive, visionary leader who incorporates systems thinking and strategic planning to direct the overall institutional operations and services consistent with the Department's mission. Supports and models evidence based practices, vision points and effective communication. Successful candidate promotes collaborative teamwork concepts, staff mentoring and recognition, while providing clear expectations and objectives. Initiative to promote innovative correctional operations, inmate programs and job skill opportunities is essential. Other key responsibilities include: budget preparation and management, adherence to ACA standards, ensure comprehensive security checks and audits; establishment of institutional goals and objectives and the means to accomplish them. Good public relations with inmates and their families, governmental and private sectors, as well as the community. QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS: REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in appropriate discipline and five years related administrative experience with demonstrated administrative ability and leadership OR completion of a career development program including work-related experience, training, or college credits equivalent to the bachelor's degree. OTHER: Must be able to demonstrate sound decision making skills consistent with current correctional practices and theory, including 3 years experience in application of unit management concepts. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Proven public relations skills necessary, along with experience in the application of change management, effective communication, continuous quality standards, core values and visionary thinking.
