ASHEBORO, BUTNER, MAURY, NC Division of Prisons Director Boyd Bennett has chosen Renoice Stancil to become the new Greene Correctional Institution superintendent August 1. Stancil was the Eastern Correctional Institution assistant superintendent and most recently was superintendent at Tyrell Prison Work Farm near Columbia, NC. He will manage a minimum security facility for 602 adult males, with a staff of 203. After graduating with a Bachelor's of Science degree in psychology, Stancil became a CO at Caledonia Correctional Institution. In 1985, he transferred to Eastern Correctional, where he advanced through the ranks to become assistant superintendent in August 2000. He succeeds the retiring Russell Ginn. Bennett tapped Joyce Kornegay as superintendent of the Umstead Correctional Center in Bunt, NC. Kornegay will oversee a minimum security prison that has approximately 115 inmates and 43 staff members. Prior to this, she has been the Raleigh Correctional Center for Women superintendent since 2003. She began her career as a case manager at the NC Correctional Institution for Women and later became an assistant superintendent for programs at the Fountain CC for Women. Kornegay was also assistant superintendent at Umstead CC for three years. Bob Burton, an NCDOC 25-year veteran will become Randolph CC's new superintendent, according to Bennett. He succeeds Terry Harvel, who has retired. Burton will manage the minimum security prison's operations and programs, and its 115 employees and 230 male inmates. He had been superintendent at Union Correctional Center near Monroe since 2005. Burton began his career in 1981 as a Piedmont Correctional Institution CO. He became sergeant there, and then transferred to the Iredell prison unit. He moved to Rowan CC and was promoted to assistant superintendent in 1993. |
