Kavanagh named director for Md. county |

Former Howard County Department of Corrections Deputy Director, Jack Kavanagh, has become the department’s director. He also will be the Howard County Detention Center warden. Kavanagh has been acting director since December. He replaces director Melanie C. Pereira, who retired after serving in that position for the past ten years. Kavanagh’s corrections career spans 30 years. He spent 24 of them with the Maryland Division of Correction. He was Howard County’s deputy director for five years where he oversaw security operations, staff training, emergency preparedness and correctional standards compliance. He also was deputy commissioner for the correction headquarters in Baltimore. He earned a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from the University of Baltimore, and is certified with the National Institute of Corrections Executives. |
