YAKIMA COUNTY, Wash. -- A Yakima County Department of Corrections Officer has resigned after being accused of having sexual relations with an inmate. Reports obtained say it started in April when inmates at the Yakima County jail began calling another inmate "Mrs.Kibbe." Other staff members at the Department of Corrections reported the suspicious activity detailed in the public records request. A full internal investigation was launched in July finding former Officer Denny Kibbe to be in violation of the Prison Rape Elimination Act. "When we talk about cardinal rules, this would be a violation of one of those cardinal rules. We do not have relationships with inmates," Yakima County Department of Corrections Director Ed Campbell. In newly released surveillance footage, former corrections officer Denny Kibbe is seen sneaking in and out of a laundry room -- away from camera view -- to have private-time with an inmate, according to internal investigation documents. Kibbe admits to hugging and kissing the female inmate -- whose identity is being kept confidential. "This officer chose to cross that line," said Campbell. Read More. |
