Article: BI Incorporated, a national provider of electronic monitoring technology and monitoring services for community corrections and immigration agencies, announced today it won a 2013 Value Chain Award along with technology enablers Multi-Tech Systems and Verizon Wireless. BI received the award at the annual Connected World Conference in Santa Clara, Calif. The award recognizes BI for being among the most successful corporate adopters of M2M technology and connected devices. BI combined the BI HomeGuard® 206 electronic monitoring system with the carrier-approved Multi-Tech Systems embedded cellular modems. BI HomeGuard 206 is a curfew monitoring system that solves the challenge of supervising offenders without traditional landlines. With this cellular system, corrections agencies can monitor the absence or presence of an individual at a certain place during a certain time. If offenders deviate from these schedules, alerts are issued to a supervising officer to manage. Multi-Tech Systems’ embedded cellular modems enhance the BI HomeGuard 206 by allowing for real-time access to data from the electronic monitoring device. This provides greater flexibility to clients, as it prevents the need to report to an agency several times a week to download device data. Because the Multi-Tech Systems’ embedded cellular modems are preapproved for use as end devices, BI saved time and money associated with pursuing their own carrier approvals. Using Multi-Tech Systems’ SocketModem® Cell embedded cellular modem, a flexible comm-port device, Multi-Tech Systems and BI were able to combine the two technologies with minimal engineering effort. About BI Incorporated (www.bi.com) Established in 1978, BI Incorporated is a wholly-owned subsidiary of The GEO Group (NYSE: GEO), a global leader in the delivery of correctional, detention, and residential treatment services to federal, state, and local government agencies. BI also owns and operates an ISO-certified national monitoring center, providing 24/7 expert support supervision services exclusively to governmental agencies. BI works closely with corrections officials to cost effectively reduce recidivism, promote public safety, and strengthen the communities they serve. |
