Get as much reference material you can and study hard. Good info at book stores to read.
Good luck folks.

Well Ladies and Gentleman,
My recommendation to teyb1 is to come to New York City and take the NYC correction officer test, however I disagree with harrajc, just taking a promotional test doesn’t make you a wise and exprienced supervisor, i believe both exam and exp with a panel interview would weed out the rejects that do get promoted because of race, gender and whatever the suits believe would make a perfect supervisor. By the way I have over twenty years of exprience in law enforcement and miss teyb1 would have a fair chance taking this test. The question is this, can miss teyb1 handle the clients on Rikers ilsand, the money is fairly good with all the bene’s. I wish you all lots of luck

My department makes you go through the motions of testing, interviewing, and talking to the chief when they already have the dumb ass officers picked out. These incompetent idiots miraculously pass all the tests and then get promoted! If the top people on the list are not on “their” list, then that list gets thrown out on a technicality, then a new test takes place. In this department, you have to know someone to get ahead. Working the line for 20 yrs is getting old. I have attempted to get promoted the right way 5 times. I am not incompetent and I know the job better than 90% of the administration.

Glad to see it’s not just one institution in Ohio that it’s happening at. I thought maybe we were just the unlucky ones.

Male user harrahjc 1 post Subject: Captain's Exam Message: I am a Lt. for the NYSDOCS and am looking for an online studying partner for the upcoming captain's exam. Any DOC'S employee interested? Point of Contact: Scott A. Renshaw NYS Dept. of Correctional Services USA srenshaw@twcny.rr.com Response: Captain's Exam > what is that??? In the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections Captain's are not promoted by exam > they are promoted by who the favorite is at the time. It would be nice to see promotions made base on exams, then maybe we would see some Captains that are actually QUALIFIED!
