Topic: The Club House / Question about co-worker You need to question him about his motives. I mean if you’ve lost confidence in his ability to protect you, then by all means screw his fillings about how he’ll take it and talk to him, let him know how you fill and give the reasons. Better that you let him know how you feel so that if he does wimp out in the future, he’ll understand the evil eye you give him. |

Topic: Health & Wellness / How to get rid of anxiety and fear? What do you mean “you and everybody you know is gonna to die”. That’s some very crazy talk, I mean if it isn’t, then you just gave out a super big spoiler alert here. Man I think I’m going to need a therapist now, thanks for the stress Campi |

Topic: Letter of The Law / Drug Testing Employees California’s court passed this drug thing years ago and it set precedence for the other states to follow. I had to do with Correctional Officers complaining about their privacy being violated, the courts ruling stated something like " Due to the nature of our jobs as Correctional Officers we have no right to privacy". Basically it means you have the same rights as an Inmate. NONE. Back them it was a big thing to protect your privacy but as we all can see, society has a way of adapting to the sheep mentality of just follow your leaders for they know what’s good for you. Go back 30 – 40 years ago and the citizens would have baulked at the ideal of anyone demanding you pee to keep your job or play in school sports. You give just a little and before you know it you’ve lost a lot, maybe even to much. Our biggest contraband now is tobacco so are we going to start testing staff for that now, I don’t smoke, so I see no problem for I have nothing to hide. Now on the other hand it they have a valid reason to test, then I all for that. |

Topic: Security Central / All righty then, this is ironic Welcome to the world of deception and deceit, A land of unreal situations and sometimes, splendid surprises. Not all of use thought or even wanted to have anything to do with Corrections but sometimes the Gods have a way of playing games and we are just pawns of their humor. Sorry to see you leave but as we all know the grass is most definitely greener any where but here. |

Topic: A Broader View / A Correctional Sense of Humor It’s both, the lack of exposure & something deeper Campi, I’ve been carrying a badge since 1981 ( I not saying that to prove I’m…..never mind) lets just say, “I’ve been around awhile:)”. Even back then we had a dry sense of humor, one that only we could relate to. It all goes with the fact that we see things that the average person don’t or let’s say shouldn’t have to see. Some think of it as a shell to protect our minds, maybe that’s why people see us giggling to our selves for no apparent reason. |

Topic: The Club House / Female going into corrections This job is 90% mental and 10% physical, just study hard and you should have no problem at the acadamy. If you have experiance with firearms great if not find someone to teach you the basics, it will give you a heads up on what to expect on the part of the trraining. Unarmed use of force is a guilded program so you should not be hindered there. As for when you start working in the walls, must of what you learned at the acadamy will classified as a guildline for on the job experiance will start to take over in due time. Welcome aboard and hope you like it the show. |

Topic: The Club House / Dissertation Research Sorry for not knowing you have a Correctional background (you left that little bit out on your post). When I saw the topic “Dissertation Research” I assumed that it was from another student getting on line here to obtain second hand knowledge to further their education instead of doing it the hard way and seeing it for themselves. Now that it’s clear you work in this field, I will man up and say my last post was uncalled for, I was being factious in my reply. I for one am happy with anyone trying to better themselves in the Correctional field. |

Topic: The Club House / Dissertation Research In this job we don’t call it bullying it’s called a IPC (Inter Personal Communications) and it’s what’s to be expected, You’ll get it from Inmates who don’t like you or staff that use it to shame you for doing stupid crap, it’s not pretty but it is what it is. In this job you have to pull you big boy or big girl pants up and drive on, no room for pansy’s here. I for one am tired of the pacification of individuals who obtain a job that does not fit their physical, mental, or even social makeup. Some people are not meant to be Correctional Officers, Some are just meant to be Ditch Diggers and others Doctors. Society’s demand that we have to fit a square peg into a round hole no matter what the consequences has weakened us. If a person cannot physically or emotionally do the job he/she wishes to do, they should not be able to obtain it no matter how much they cry to mommy about it. Another thing that bothers me is having people who are on the outside looking in, thinking that they can just ask a few questions and have the answers to make a policy toward a better working environment. How about you get a job as a Correctional Officer first, walk a few miles in our shoes, then you may ask a few of your questions and your two cents worth of knowledge may even be worthy of a few replies. We are not ogres in this field but using a little IPC skills may be necessary for someone, so that safety and security which are our top priorities in this job can be maintained. If not we will have Inmates escaping though tunnels and hiding in the woods. |

Topic: Security Central / Juggalos and Juggalettes You better beleave it but hey don’t take my word for it, even Wikipedia says so, Juggalo gangs – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia I bet your one of those guys who believe the Hell’s Angles are just a bunch of church going, peaceful motorcycle riders, getting a bad rap from the Po-Po. Wake up man, these Juggalos & Juggaletts are bad news. I mean they have to be if they listen to " Insane Clown Posse", right. |

Topic: The Club House / National Correctional Officers Week I would like to say thanks to all the Correctional Officers out there. Here’s to you and your commitment to the job. It takes a special person to put on this uniform and walk thru these gates, it takes a crazy one to stay to the end. May your journey be great and hope you enjoy the ride. |

Topic: A Broader View / How long does process take in Ohio OOHHH Boy, you did it now. theres no turning back, but don’t sweat it, just relax and look at all the good this job can offer. As for me it was the uniforn, I look in the mirror everyday and I say to myself “DAMN I look good”. My wife thinks the same thing, in fact I looked so good she went and got hired also, now we both stare at each other with eyes sparkeling. I tell you life is good. |

Topic: A Broader View / How long does process take in Ohio Be yourself and don’t try to bullshit them, they have been around and will catch it. Just relax, think about your answers and it will be alright, show them that your confident about yourself but not arrogant. Keep it in the back of your mind like a mantra “I don’t need this job, I want it". Good luck. |
